Cermet Cutting-Tool Materials (TiCN-Based) is a TiCN-based cermet tool material combining ceramic hard phases with a metallic binder. It is relevant to cutting tools, dies, inserts and wear-resistant components. For HANS, the machining focus is precision grinding, lapping and edge finishing, with tooling selected around the material’s hardness, brittleness, geometry and required surface condition.

Machining Challenges

Hard brittle phases and binder heterogeneity make edge preparation sensitive to microchipping and local thermal damage.

Recommended Diamond Tool Solutions

Use fine diamond grinding and controlled edge preparation for nonferrous-compatible cermet systems; select bond and coolant based on composition and required edge radius.
