Macor® Machinable Glass Ceramic

Macor® Machinable Glass Ceramic is a glass or glass-ceramic material used in optical, technical, architectural or electronic components. It is relevant to technical, architectural and precision glass components. For HANS, the machining focus is cutting, edge grinding, drilling, lapping and polishing, with tooling selected around the material’s hardness, brittleness, geometry and required surface condition.
Machining Challenges
Brittle fracture, edge chipping, scratching and subsurface damage can reduce dimensional accuracy and finished-surface quality.
Recommended Diamond Tool Solutions
Use fine diamond saws, edge-grinding wheels and drills with controlled feed and coolant; for precision faces, follow with fine lapping and polishing using progressively smaller diamond abrasives.
