Tempered Glass & Heat-Strengthened Glass

Tempered Glass & Heat-Strengthened Glass is a thermally strengthened glass used for safety and architectural applications. It is relevant to technical, architectural and precision glass components. For HANS, the machining focus is cutting, edge grinding, drilling, lapping and polishing, with tooling selected around the material’s hardness, brittleness, geometry and required surface condition.
Machining Challenges
High residual stress means cutting, drilling or aggressive edge machining after strengthening can trigger catastrophic breakage.
Recommended Diamond Tool Solutions
Perform cutting, drilling and edge grinding before the strengthening step whenever possible. Use fine diamond wheels, drills and controlled coolant for pre-temper processing; use post-temper machining only where an engineered process specifically permits it.
