Fiberglass / GFRP

Fiberglass / GFRP is a glass-fiber-reinforced polymer composite used in electrical, marine, structural and industrial components. It is relevant to aerospace, transportation and high-performance structural components. For HANS, the machining focus is cutting, trimming, drilling and edge finishing, with tooling selected around the material’s hardness, brittleness, geometry and required surface condition.

Machining Challenges

Glass fibers are highly abrasive while the polymer matrix can heat, smear or delaminate; fraying and edge breakout are common.

Recommended Diamond Tool Solutions

Use sharp diamond cutting, routing and drilling tools with controlled feed, support and dust extraction. Select open, free-cutting tool designs to limit heat and matrix loading.
