Zinc Selenide (ZnSe) Infrared Optical Material & CO₂ Laser Optics is a infrared optical material widely used for CO₂-laser windows, lenses and thermal-imaging optics. It is relevant to laser, photonic, electro-optic and infrared optical components. For HANS, the machining focus is precision cutting, grinding, lapping and optical polishing, with tooling selected around the material’s hardness, brittleness, geometry and required surface condition.

Machining Challenges

ZnSe is relatively soft and brittle; scratching, edge chipping, subsurface damage and contamination can compromise optical performance.

Recommended Diamond Tool Solutions

Use fine diamond cutting and edge grinding followed by controlled lapping and optical polishing. Use enclosed processing and appropriate dust/particle controls.
